The 2020 school year has been exceedingly different so far. There have been many obstacles and many more to come. Despite this year not being the same as others, this is an opportunity to do things that's never been done before. My initial thoughts for this school year is that not everyone is going to participate, not all our ideas are going to go as planned, and not everything we want to do is going to happen. But that doesn't mean we give up. This year is about accepting change and overcoming all the challenges that are brought to us. We need to stick with our core principles and dare to lead! We’ve had some incredible opportunities so far. We still got to be a part of core camp, and we got this opportunity for Scott Backovich to encourage, inspire, and give us countless ideas we can try. My expectations for this year is that things are different. But different is good. We get to try new activities that would have never been a thing if we were online. We get to all still communicate and try to make this situation into a better one. We want to encourage people that just because things aren't the same right now doesnt mean we can't participate and make the most out of it! I not only want to grow as a leader but as a person as well. I want to work the hardest I can and try to make a change. I want to encourage and enlighten people. I want to stick with our core principles and continue the program for the next 4 years. I hope to make a difference! Just because 2020 isn't how we all want to be, doesn't mean we can't make it somewhat better!

Page 2: Favorite Quotes
“Train your mind to see the good in everything. Positivity is a choice. The happiness of your life depends on the quality of your thoughts.” -Unknown. This is one of my favorite quotes for many reasons. For so long I was always in a bad mindset. I never really saw the good in things, and I was always thinking negatively about situations. This quote was one of the reasons I tried to change. For so long now I've seen so many people who are so negative all the time. They never see the good in things, and they always think the worst in situations. My goal was to be the opposite. I want to spread positivity and see the good in everything even the bad times. When you dwell on every little thing and when you are in this negative mindset you're not the happiest person. When you are happy and try to be positive about things your whole perspective on life changes. You see things differently then you do when you were in such a negative mindset. Your life is how you make it. Do you want to live with a negative attitude all the time. No you want to have a growth mindset and learn to improve and want to be happy and positive. If you think your day is going to be good then you are going to try and make your day good. If you are stuck in this fixed mindset that nothing is going to change and you are going to be negative about everything you aren't going to have a good day. Like the quote says “The happiness of your life depends on the quality of your thoughts”. If you think happy, you will be happy. People need to try to look at life in a different perspective. Life is way too short to be negative and always think badly. This quote reminds me who I want to be and how I want to act.
“Your life isn’t yours if you always care what someone thinks of you.” -Unknown. This quote has made a very big impact on me and has opened my eyes. I’m the type of person who always cares about what others think about me. When someone says something about me I let it get the best of me. I always care about everyone's opinions. My goal in life is to make others happy and I always do everything for everyone and when people say something negative about me I let it get to me. No matter what it is I let that comment tear me down. Even if it’s about what I’m wearing, or how I play sports, or how I do something I worked really hard for. I don’t know why but I care about everyone's opinion so much and it really takes a tear on you. This quote made me realize it’s not my life if I keep letting people's opinions get the best of me. I won’t be able to live the life I want to. I need to learn how to live the life I want to live and do the things I want to do without caring about what others have to say about it.
“Feel what you need to feel and then let it go. Do not let it consume you.” - Dhiman. When I first saw this quote it made me think of all the hard things in my life that I've faced. Once things happen to me it’s very hard for me to let it go. I can’t stop thinking about the situation that happened. This quote reminds me to think about it but don't dwell on it. I need to feel the emotions and feelings then let it go. I can’t hold onto the emotions and let it take me down. I need to not let it consume me and I need to realize I’m going to go through many things in life and I can’t hold onto the feelings forever. I need to learn how to let go.

“Before you are a Leader, Success is all about growing yourself. When you become a Leader, success is all about growing others.”
This quote to me shows that you need to find growth in yourself and which is really important to me because I’ve worked really hard trying to find who I am and what I want to do as a Leader and how I can make an impact. When you grow yourself you grow your skills and that will make you succeed. You can’t be a leader if you don’t grow yourself first. In order to grow yourself you’re learning about the skills you can do and once you know that you can start to help others grow as well. Being a leader isn’t being selfish, it’s you wanting to help others grow.

Page 4: Goals
Leadership has been an amazing experience for me and I’m grateful everyday that I’m even in leadership. I have many goals I want to accomplish this year in leadership. I want to come out of my comfort zone and connect more with all my peers and everyone in the program. I want to show them that I can do the job and help them with anything they need. Communication is key and we are one team and work together. I want to build onto our connection so we can work together and accomplish everything we need to. I also want to improve myself as a leader. I want to get the job done right and successfully. I want to work the hardest I can and develop more skills that a good leader has. Two goals I have for the end of highschool is to hopefully stay in Leadership and get the position I’m going to work for, as well as maintaining good grades and having fun. High school is all what you make out of it. I want to make new friendships, bond with more people, get involved all around high school and just be a teenager and have fun. I don’t want to look back on life and think to myself “you should have done this, why didn’t you do that”. I want to accomplish everything I put my mind to. 2 long goals for my future is to get the job that I really want. I want to be happy with my work and put everything I have into it. I hope that my plan comes together and I hope to be a very successful person. My second goal would be to make everyone in my life proud. I also want to work the hardest I can so I can inspire others to do the same. I want to encourage people and show them if I can do it so can they.
Page 5: Goals
Come out of my comfort zone and connect more with my peers.
My first goal a few months back when I was writing them was this one. It’s crazy to me to look back and reflect on how much I’ve changed and grown. I’ve made so many connections and relationships with many people in the program and it’s made me come out of my comfort zone and I’m not the shy Freshmen girl I use to be.
I want to show them that I can do the job and help them with anything they need.
This goal was very important to me especially for being a Freshmen. I wanted to work hard not only for myself but for everyone in the program to show them that they can rely on me for anything they need. I feel that I came a long way with this goal especially for winning President and always trying to help in any way I can.
I also want to improve myself as a leader. I want to get the job done right and successfully. I want to work the hardest I can and develop more skills that a good leader has.
This goal I tried to work my hardest I could with all the events we’ve done this year due to the conditions and setbacks I wanted to make it the best year I could with the hard work ethic. For myself I wanted to prove that I could work hard for the goals I’ve set for myself and become a good leader with the skills I’ve learned.
Stay in Leadership and get the position I’m going to work for.
This goal was mainly the most important goal I’ve set for myself. I’ve been dreaming to be president since I was in sixth grade. It’s crazy to see as I get older the dreams I had when I was little is now becoming a reality. I worked really hard and I get to be Sophomore Class President and hopefully be president for the next three years.
Maintaining good grades.
This goal has always been one of my top goals for myself. I want to be able to have all A’s not because it’s required but because I want to be the best version of myself and want to work hard and not be average. Grades to me are very important and I want to make my parents proud, as well as prove myself wrong that I can get all A’s.
Have fun
This is cliché but High School is all what you make out of it and I want to have fun and make memories. We are only in High School once and I want to make the most out of it. I want to make memories, work hard, but also make connections I will remember forever. Having fun while you’re young is important because once you grow up you’re going to regret not having fun.

Pg 2: Do you think it’s okay to change? What happens when people want to change but they are too scared because they just want to fit in? How can they get the motivation to change and be who they want to be? Today we talked to Kylee Brown to get some insight on life lessons everyone struggles with. Kylee Brown says that “it is perfectly fine to change. You aren’t going to be the same person you were your whole life. Life is about change and finding who you truly are. A hard lesson we have to learn is that we shouldn’t want to fit in with everyone. We are all different in our own ways and we should express that. You need to love who you are so you don’t have the need to want to fit in and be like everyone else. You need to do things for you! Once people see that you are who you truly are and you do what you want to do it’s going to inspire others to do the same. You are the change. Don’t wait for someone else to. Inspire other people to be who they truly are. Life is too short to try and fit in with people and act like someone you aren’t. It’s not going to be easy. It takes time to adapt to change. But life is a journey and you need to make your own journey. Get the motivation to want to be who you are and try to inspire others to do the same. You might think you are the only one struggling with trying to change so you can be yourself. But you aren't. Be who you want to be so you don’t look back on life regretting how you acted. Change takes time but the outcome is always the best part!”
Pg 5: In life we often fail at things and it can take a toll on us. We get down on ourselves a lot and some of us aren’t good and dealing with failure. How can you accept failure? What can you do to make yourself feel okay with it? Kylee Brown gives wise advice about how to cope with failure. She states “Failure is something in life we all have to go through. Even if we don’t want to be perfect and we are all going to fail sometimes. It's part of life. But what matters most is how you handle it. You can sit down and give up thinking you aren’t going to do good or you can get back up on your feet and keep trying. With failure we have to understand that it’s going to happen. Not everything is going to succeed. We just have to accept the fact that we are human and we make mistakes. We aren’t going to succeed at everything in life. But we can learn from these failures and it can make us stronger. It’s all up to you and what you decide to do with it. My advice for you is to not get down on yourself, but to learn from what happened and better yourself for the next opportunity that comes your way. Don’t give up!
Pg 8: Our world is going through things we've never gone through before. It has been a crazy year this year. With all the craziness there comes actions. It can be good actions, or even bad ones. When we go through something like this we also get to see how everyone reacts to these hard times. One life lesson Kylee Brown talks about today is positivity. “One of my favorite quotes gives a perfect example of positivity and what it can do for us. “Train your mind to see the good in everything. Positivity is a choice. The happiness of your life depends on the quality of your thoughts.” -Unknown. Take a moment and read that. It’s telling us we need to start learning how to see the good in everything. When you see the good in everything it makes you positive. When you are positive about life you are happy. Happiness is all about your attitude and how you want to live your life. The question is do you want to be sad and negative all the time or do you want to get into that positive mindset and grow! My advice to you is to go into things having a growth mindset. Make yourself want to get better. Make yourself want to spread positivity and see the good in life. Once you do that you will feel so much better about everything. Life is hard and this doesn't mean you have to be happy all the time. No one in life is happy all the time. We all go through struggles. But what matters is how we react to them! Spread positivity, fix that mindset so you can learn how to grow. You can do anything with the power of your attitude and how you think about life!” Life is all what you make out of it, always remember that.

Page 9: Role Models
I know most people when they think of role models they instantly think of their parents. I’m one of those people. My parents are my biggest role models and have such a big impact in my life. I do most things in life to make not only myself proud but my parents proud as well. They do everything they can for me, and they teach me life lessons I never knew I needed, and they want me to set goals for myself, and accomplish all my goals I set. When they were younger they didn’t have that push or motivation that they give me. I’m grateful everyday for having that push and for having parents who change my perspective on things everyday. Most people don’t have that push and they don’t have their parents making them want to be a better person everyday like mine do for myself. My mom's passion for the things she does is inspiring. My dads hard working and caring personality encourages me to do the same. The way they never give up no matter what life throws at them lets me know that I shouldn’t give up either. When I was younger I never realized how important school was, or why it’s a good thing to be a good person. I was so worried about all the wrong things I never saw all the important things. My parents changed that for me. They want me to work the hardest I can, be a good person even if people aren’t nice back, and they never want me to struggle. I look up to them not because they give me good life lessons and give me everything I need in life. I look up to them because they make me want to be a better person. They motivate me everyday. I’m grateful for having my parents be my role models and I’m blessed to know I can look up to them.
Page 10: The Inner Animal
If I could choose one animal that would describe my personality would be a Dolphin. I chose a dolphin because they are the friendliest animals. They get along with others, have compassion for other animals as well as us humans, and they try to make a strong connection with everyone. Dolphins personality relates a lot to me. I try to be very friendly to everyone I meet. I try very hard to get along with others and have compassion no matter what the situation may be. In life many people don’t realize how important it could be to have those character traits. When I think of dolphins I think of them as caring, and always happy. When I think of who I want to be, I know I want people to think of me as a happy caring person as well. A dolphin represents me because we both share the same characteristics, and have the same goal in life. We want to make people happy and create relationships with love and compassion.
Page 11: Fall Semester Final
2020 has been full of surprises, hard times, difficult obstacles, and real pain. This year is extremely different from any previous year. Many things are different, and many people had to adapt to the tough challenges that came their way this year. One thing we can normalize is giving back to others. We never know what someone is going through and we all take the things we have in life for granted. Giving back to someone can not only make their day but it can make you happy as well.
This year for my final I decided to help Jaydin and her grandmother with a homeless shelter and get someone a 15 dollar target gift card. I wanted to help someone from a homeless shelter and brighten their day. I want to put a smile on someone’s face and give something back to someone who deserves it.
My mom and I drove to a target and I went to the gift card section and got a Target gift card. Once I got home I went in front of the Christmas tree and took a picture with the gift card. After I took a picture I drove to Jaydin’s house and dropped it off so Jaydin and her grandmother can go to the homeless shelter and give people in need something that will make their day.
Doing this assignment made a big impact on me. It made me realize how lucky I am to have the things I have. It was a big eye-opener for me because there are so many people out there that aren’t as privileged as most of us are. I realized I need to be more grateful for the things I have and the sacrifices my parents make for me. So many people have to go through so many things and it makes me want to help everyone I can.
This assignment was valuable to me because I learned many life lessons. I need to show my gratitude more to my family, be more appreciative, and change my outlook on life. I shouldn’t complain when there are so many other people that have to go through things I’ve never had to experience. It made me happy that I got to help someone as well as make me more grateful.

Page 12: The Best Things About Me
I beleive a certain amount of people don’t know how to live in the present moment. One thing I was working on this past year was trying to live in the present moment and live young while I still can. I love to still act like a kid once in a while. Feeling the stress and pressure us teenagers feel can be overwhelming. I love to go outside, go hangout with friends, go to parks, go on bike rides, watch the sunset, activities that take away all the stress and pressure of feeling like we have to grow up so fast. This picture is me on a slide at the park with my friends. When I look at this picture I see a girl smiling, hanging at the park, and cherishing how she’s still young and still has so much life to live! I love how i’ve learned to live in the present moment and be able to act like a kid once in a while!
One big thing apart of me would be my religion and faith. I grown up in a christian church since I was little. When I was younger I hated going to church. I hate to say that and hate to admit but I wouldn’t understand it or why I had to go. I was tired of waking up early in the morning and sitting in church. Until I got into middle school my whole perpective on church has changed. I was going through a hard time during middle school with my self worth, and negative thinking got the best of me. I still went to church everyday but I decided to join the youth group. That was the best thing I’ve done. I met my amazing church leaders Amy and Lisa, and they had such an impact on myself. They grew my faith, they made me want to come to church every week, and I even joined the Leadership program recently there. I love growing my faith and now I continue to learn more and grow my connection with God!
One thing that I love is leadership. It has impacted me in so many ways. The passion and drive I have for it is something I haven’t had for anything else. I got to make amazing friendships, develop skills I didn’t have, and it changed my life in a positive way. Without leadership I wouldn’t be who I am today. I not only love for it but I live for it and love what I do.
Page 13: Homecoming
For it being my first homecoming the way we adapted and worked together through the circumstances was impressive. As Freshmen, we are close to being clueless most of the time and this homecoming taught us how to work together and adapt in many ways. My favorite part was being able to bond with my classmates and make memories since we haven’t been able to this year. I got closer to many people in leadership and it grew our connection working together. It also was a good experience to be a runner at the coronation. It made me happy being able to give each candidate their boxes my mom and I made. This homecoming was not only stressful it made me a better leader, and I was able to come closer with my peers!
Page 14: What I love to do
When someone asks me “what are your hobbies”, it takes me a while to think about what I like to do. Nothing really pops up in my mind besides one thing that most people wouldn’t think is an actual hobby. Ever since I was little, every school project I could do I would go all out for it. I loved doing the most and going all out. If I was in a group project I would love to be in charge and guide everyone else. Then once I got older I would always try to be involved in everything I could. Then the student council came and I've never been more excited. So when I think of something I love to do I think about Leadership. Being in Leadership means more to me than most people. It’s my favorite thing I look forward to and I love to do it!
Page 15: Letter to my parents
To my parents,
I don’t show my appreciation to you both as much as I should. You guys are the reason I am the person I am today. You guys are my biggest supporters and I can’t thank you enough for always believing in me when I don’t always believe in myself. You guys push me to want to be the best version of myself that I want to be. Without you guys I wouldn’t have the support and motivation to do the things I want to do. I don’t think you guys know how amazing you are and how lucky I am to have you both as my parents. I’m sorry I don’t appreciate you as much as I should but just know you guys are the best parents I could ever ask for.

To the freshmen reps that will be taking my place next year,
I want you to know that hard work pays off! You need to push yourself and be the best version of yourself for this program. You guys are all a team, make sure you guys work like it. There is going to be some hard times but you guys have to work together and know that you have the upperclassmen to help you guys! Put your guys ideas together and make sure to know that you have a voice and you can use it. Freshman year is the start to your next three years, make it count, don’t give up, believe in yourself, work together, and most of all have fun! You have an amazing experience being able to be in the Leadership program. Be a good role model, be the change you want to make, and make the most out of the time you have! Leadership is lots of time and dedication but in the end it will all be worth it.
Page 17: Do's and Don't
In leadership there are going to be many do’s and don’ts I had to learn for it being my first year in a different leadership year.
For the Don’ts

Page 18: The Professional
Being in the Leadership program has given me the opportunity to learn more about being professional and how the real world works. Each year we are able to participate in Mock Interviews. You get to pick what career interests you and research about it so you can talk to someone in that profession and you do an interview with them. It’s a great learning experience and preparing you for when you are older. We also get to learn how to write a cover letter for our interview and just so we have the knowledge to know how to make one. We are able to know how to make a cover letter, learn how to write a good resume, as well as get the skills to have a good interview. Learning these skills are more important than you think and Leadership prepares you for that.
Page 19: Change
One change that was difficult this year was working together as a team. For myself I want to change putting so much on myself when I have people who could help me with it. Leadership isn’t a one person job and throughout the years you can learn that it’s okay to ask for help. One positive change would be getting closer and developing the connections as a whole. Having connections with people in the class is one advantage of being in Leadership. It’s not like a regular class, we are like a family.
Page 20: The Ideal Leader
An ideal leader has to have many standards they should meet. For example if you want to be a good leader you have to learn how to communicate, adapt, work with others, and know how to put on events in a smooth way. An ideal leader should make sure everyone is doing something to help and each person has a task they can complete. They also need to be organized and have a plan so things can get done fast and efficiently. They should be good at communicating with everyone in the class and know how to be helpful with the event they are putting on. An ideal leader should also care about everyone around them and want to help people become a better leader.
Page 21: You
One word to describe me would be caring because I would do anything for anyone I care for. Being a leader is not only knowing how to plan an event, but it also is caring about everyone and wanting to better other people and not just yourself. Caring about people is one trait that not a lot of people genuinely have. People can say they care about someone but don’t show it. Your actions speak louder than your words. I would try to do anything I can to help anyone around me. I care about people because we never know what people are going through and sometimes it takes one positive person that cares for them to make everything feel better. I love making people happy and just trying to help them makes me feel good!
